A visit from Dave and Candice

We had a visit from 2 of our designers from GM today. Dave and Candice gave all of the groups great feedback on their projects. It was great to have them and we can’t wait for them to see the final projects 3 weeks from today!

Hard work

You can see the hard work everywhere in the GM classroom today. It’s on the walls, it’s on the desks, and it’s even on the ceiling! Sketches and ideas are all over the place and everyone is working hard to prepare for the last few weeks of the project.

Progress report from Joey Kowardy

Overall I am SO happy where our team ended up. I think personally we had a hard time bridging all the GMC aesthetic and insight into a final form that we could use. This was a tedious process that came a long way from our initial sketches. For a lot of us this was our very first experience ideating and sketching for a company so it was fun to watch us go from interesting shapes to something that GM found exciting!

As a team I think this last presentation and everything that we did lately that led up to it showcased our various skills well. This was one of my favorite presentations to make and deliver because (in my opinion) this was the first time ALL of our skills were needed to deliver this final piece. Sierra’s presentations, layouts, and experience working with design directions really shined through and gave us sketch direction to both Seth and I. Seth’s rendering in 3D programs and attention to detail really brought our team a sense of efficiency that we were very thankful to have. Personally, I think my final sketches and model making brought this concept into a new light that made our team excited and brought a sense of function to it that our previous early drawings lacked.
As a team we have A LOT we want to get done before the last presentation in December. We all have a list of things to do and a personal schedule we all made to keep track of it all! Personally, i will be working on refining the final concept and bringing to life a 3D Printed model with a lot of it really fleshed out looking very well! I will also be helping Sierra catalog our sketch and design journeys in our final presentation!

An update from Courtney

Everyone on the GM project is filled with relief. Last Friday, we completed our second presentation where we proposed two different concepts with research, sketches, orthographic drawings, renders, and volume models. It was a wonderful experience and the designers gave great advice and direction. It was such a relief to realize what we just accomplished. I must say, I have never seen so much caffeine consumed in 48 hours, but it was worth it. I couldn’t ask for better teammates. Today, we cleaned up the studio and after a weekend of rest. The floors are swept, the tools put in place, and energy drinks cleaned up. We are ready to start all over again!

GM Presentations!

Yesterday the students presented their drone designs to GM, and they were very impressed! The drone designs ranged from entertainment drones to construction assistance drones- and everything in between. The GM designers gave great feedback to the students. It’s great to see students and professionals working together on a project and the ideas they come up with. We can’t wait to see the final drone designs that will be presented in December!

Tomorrow is the big visit from the GM designers, and you can see the hard work everywhere! Students were up late last night working on their drone models, and are continuing to work hard today. We can’t wait to hear what the designers think of the models tomorrow morning! Good luck students!

A visit from Charlotte Belland

Today CCAD animation instructor Charlotte Belland visited the class. She gave a lesson on quick gesture drawing and animal anatomy. Many of the drone designs are pulling inspiration from different animals and the way they move, so Charlotte had a lot of great advice to offer the students.
